Cuban Cigars Can Be Saved By Trevor Wallace There may be times whenever you end up with cigars that have dried out to a certain extent. Perhaps you were given a box of quality cigars at one point and you set it on a shelf in order to enjoy them whenever you had the opportunity. Sometimes, that opportunity never seems to come around and the box of cigars may have sat there for several years.
Although you did place them in a humidor like a good boy, you didn't re-energize your humidor that is essential for your cigars to stay in good shape. You realize all you have is a bunch of dried out cigars. You begin to wonder if your cigars will every be smokable again.
However, don't worry at all because their are several ways of bringing that Cuban cigar to life. Some methods are better than others but the rule of thumb should be never try to do it with lots of water. Lots of water is bad for your cigar as extra moisture can expand the tobacco and your cigar. The idea is to slowly hydrate it and in a very slow manner. Most likely you'll be able to bring your cigars to life but if its too late than its really too late. Take it as a lesson learned and never ever forget about your Cuban cigars. Experts suggest smoking them as soon as you get it while you have the chance because each cigar should be experienced to the fullest. I love smoking Cohiba Robustos on my patio with some wine.
Put your Cuban cigars in single plastic bags and seal them with cedar strips. This is almost an instant way to get the humidity right for your cigars so they can start coming back to life. You'll notice that after a few days the color of the cigars would get a little darker. This shows that its working and now you have to step up your
game and do something else to speed up the process and instill more life in your Cuban cigars.
For completely dried up cigars, the process is very different. I suggest get some flat bottom based Tupperware, fill the base with water and cover it with cedar strips. Make sure the cedar strips remain dry as you will be placing your Cuban cigar on top of it. Put it in their and let your cigar 'recover' slowly. It might take months but once it gets back to life, you'll be pleasantly surprised.
So get that humidor recharged and place that container sealed up in the humidor. This will bring your cigars back to life in four weeks or so. Keep an eye on your humidor because if its not charged properly it won't work. Give it the time and your cigars should be ready to smoke again.
