For him, going is like preparing for war. He picks the right weapons, and he also selects the best bait. The bass fish are the enemy, and I swear he plots their destruction! But above all else, he believes that mastering the basics of bass techniques comes first.
Casting is one of the most important things to learn. Dad says it should be like second nature. This means when you're in the water, you won't be distracted by your casting technique.
The smoother and quieter your cast, the better the results will be. You don't want to startle the bass fish, since they like quiet areas. If you can catch them unawares with a smooth cast, you're starting off right.
My dad uses another weapon: Technological devices. With a radar, he says he is able to find the hiding spots of the fish. It's very helpful to be able to use these bass techniques. Since bass fish love to hide in different types of cover, like rocky areas or areas with fallen trees, knowing how to find them is key. In these areas, there are likely to be a good bit of bass
fish.
This in turn means you'll catch more. I didn't know that could be so complicated. And we used to think we would just take a snooze in the boat. This guy really takes seriously, though. You just wait, he'll be having us salute him the next time he heads out!
